For the first time Alstom will operate its own rail service in the UK as they plan to operate a new passenger rail service which runs through England and Wales, known as the Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway (WSMR). Well done Alstom and SLC Rail!
The company are working in partnership with SLC Rail and the WSMR are introducing a direct connection to and from North Wales, Shropshire, the Midlands and London – something which doesn’t exist today. This new service expected to run in 2025 will not only help local communities but will also help businesses to travel to and from the capital. Around 50 jobs will also be created in the Midlands and North Wales.
“As the country’s leading supplier of rolling stock and train services, it makes perfect sense that we now move into operating our own fleet to serve passengers directly. Having been part of the fabric of UK rail for two centuries, we’re excited to enter this new era as an open access operator,” said Nick Crossfield, Managing Director UK and Ireland at Alstom.
He added: “Alstom is also committed to embedding sustainability into every element of our organisation, and WSMR will help drive a modal shift from road to rail by offering a greener alternative for travellers across England and Wales.”
