We asked our Engineering Director Michael Hickey what he thought about the education process in rail 🤔 and here’s what he said:

It’s always been a tough topic in this industry as every area in rail is quite bespoke. As a Signalling Engineer, the best course I ever attended was the Free Wired Interlocking Design Course and I took a lot of knowledge away from that course that I still fall back on today.

When I joined the industry there wasn’t any tailored apprenticeship training programs. However, things are very different today with every subject an apprentice learns being relevant to the industry they work in. Although I still believe that under good mentorship, most of the learning in this industry is by getting your hands dirty and learning by doing.
