
Mark Wild a former Crossrail boss and Kay Hughes HS2 Design Director are the 2 latest heavyweights to sign up as commissioners for the ambitious Building the Future Commission. Mark Wild CEO of SGN and Kay Hughes will advise primarily on the planning and infrastructure strand of the commission.
In January 2023 the commission will launch with its primary aim of finding solutions to some of the construction industry’s underlying problems such as an ageing workforce, low productivity levels and the need to invest more into research and development.

By the end of 2023 the commission will deliver a report which will hopefully provide solutions to the construction industry’s problems. The commission will consist of a panel of commissioners, who in their own rights are leading figures in the world of business, research, education and policy.
Focusing on workplace, culture and inclusivity, will be presided over by Lara Oyedele, president of the Chartered Institute of Housing and chief executive of training organisation Black on Board.
Other key commissioners who have signed up include:
- Richard Steer, Chair of Gleeds
- Lord Kerslake, former head of the Civil Service and current chair at Peabody
- Emma-Jane Houghton, Commercial Director at New Hospitals Programme
There will also be more commissioners signing up over the next few weeks.
