As DigiSig Rail Group Ltd is based in the Midlands we love nothing more than hearing any good news about the area, especially within rail. So, today, we were extremely happy to see that HS2 and the Dept for Work & Pensions have joined together to create three new recruitment hubs for the HS2 project in the West Midlands.
The news comes as recent figures show that HS2’s construction is helping thousands of unemployed people start a new career in rail. 4020 unemployed (for 26 weeks or more) people went on to secure roles working on the HS2 line.
With new stations in Birmingham and Solihull, the network control centre and depot in Washwood Heath, and the Head Quarters for HS2 Ltd in Birmingham city centre, it’s all amazing news for those people wishing to secure new work opportunities within rail.
The new HS2 Recruitment Hubs are co-located within the Washwood Heath, Birmingham Summer Row and Chelmsley Wood Job Centres. These hubs will advertise job opportunities and will enable candidates to meet face to face with recruiters. You can find out more by going to https://lnkd.in/ebjaTBS3
Another fact you may not know is that over one third of the entire workforce of HS2 are actually based at sites in the West Midlands😀 In 2024 the new build of Curzon Street Station, Interchange Station and the Washwood Heath campus will gather more momentum again providing more work opportunities for local people.
Laing O’Rourke, HS2’s construction partner for Interchange Station has confirmed that they will need to recruit a further 1,000 people to deliver the project. Whilst Mace Dragados who are building Curzon Street Station confirm that a further 1,000 positions will need to be filled, which includes 150 new entrant roles, apprenticeship positions and lots of opportunities for those who are unemployed.
Well done West Midlands 👏
