Could you tempt lost staff back with a one-off £69.28 bonus?
What’s your thoughts on this subject? Do you buy Apple products?
According to Bloomberg, protests have broken out at the world’s biggest iphone factory in the Chinese city of Zehengzhou as workers at the Foxconn Technology plant started to protest overnight over unpaid wages and fears of rising higher covid rates. The Zhengzhou region produces 4 out of 5 of the latest Apple handsets and employs around 200,000 people.
In order to combat staff losses, the Technology plant started a fresh recruitment drive earlier this month in a bid to try to lure back staff who had left in recent weeks citing a one-off bonus of 500 yuan / $69.28 if staff would return. Black Friday Deals wouldn’t get you very much for this amount of money!
Online video footage which was being circulated at the time showed hundreds of workers marching with riot police in attendance.
Tensions have been growing since lockdown stated in October amid growing covid infection rates. Indeed, reports last month said many had tried to flee the region.
In a statement earlier this month, Apple said that while it expects demand to be strong for its iPhone 14 – despite a global economic downturn weighing on consumer habits – shipments will be lower than previously anticipated.
Foxconn has also downgraded its outlook for this quarter over the lockdown.
Foxconn and Apple were not immediately available to comment. I wonder why?
