A piling rig which was being used on Capital & Centric’s Goods Yard in Stoke-On-Trent toppled over and fell onto a former signal box. Miraculously no one was hurt in the incident. The Goods Yard area which has just received a grant of £16m from the Governments Levelling Up fund is close to the railway station which lies on the West Coast mainline. Bowmer & Kirkland is main contractor on the job where work started last October.
The derelict signal box at the site will be restored and turned into a cafe bar. The plans, which have been submitted to the City Council, also include 170 apartments, a restored warehouse and the reopening of the water’s edge to the public.
A spokesperson from Capital & Centric confirmed that “There was an incident on site involving the piling rig. No-one was hurt, but it’s caused some limited damage to the former signal box. We’re working closely with the construction contractors, responsible for managing the site, who will rectify the issue and investigate the circumstances.”
