Preparation to clear Manchester’s Event City is currently taking place to make way for the UK’s first city-based wellbeing water resort.
Peel L&P have submitted plans to demolish the former soccer dome building at Trafford Way on Barton Dock Road. The demolishing plans will then make way for a landmark tropical complex. Demolition works could start as early as October if Trafford Council approve the plans.
The projected building costs are estimated to be around £250m with the landmark project being developed by Therme in partnership with Peel L&P. After the go-ahead has been given by Trafford Council then the 28 acre site will have a build time of around 2 years.
One amazing attraction within the resort will include Manchester’s first all-season urban beach, with a unique waterpark, well being spar, expansive thermal pools. All immersive digital art and an onsite urban farm with beautiful botanical gardens. .
James Whittaker, Peel L&P’s Executive Director of Development said: “Therme Manchester is an attraction like no other and it’s incredibly exciting to be making preparations to bring the UK’s first resort of this kind to Trafford City for people of all ages to enjoy.”
Richard Land, chief development officer of Therme Group UK, said: “We are delighted to have reached this critical stage with Peel L&P, which marks the beginning of on-site works for Therme Manchester.
“An iconic project for the city as well as for the entire UK, this milestone confirms the arrival of Therme in the North. It also solidifies our vision for 90% of the UK to be within easy reach of a Therme destination, with future developments planned for Glasgow, London and other key cities.”
