Well hasn’t our Miles Wootton been extremely busy with his training!

He’s completed:

His project management and Rail Engineering Principles apprenticeship assignments.

Mod 5 Course in Crickhowell, Wales with PM Training & Assessing Ltd,
which covered the basics of undertaking a test assistant role in line with Licence category 1.3.150 following The Signalling Works Testing Handbook Defined Tests and safety communications for purposes of working with the Testers

Signal Sighting Committee Member (SSCM) Course online with Colin Brace at Network Rail. He now has this on his Sentinel Card. 👏 Signal Sighting Assessments are used by the rail industry to confirm that train drivers, train dispatchers and ground staff can reliably detect, recognise, interpret and take action relating to signal assets presented on railway infrastructure. If drivers, train dispatchers and ground staff can’t read signal assets, the likelihood of a signal passed at danger (SPAD) or other safety of line event can result in significant consequences that may result in loss of train service, damage to infrastructure and in extreme cases of injury to a person or loss of life. The course covered the formation of a Signal Sighting Committee and the roles of those involved (chairperson, Signal Engineer, Railway TOCs/FOCs, Infrastructure Owner) the types of signal and sign assets/ six categories and the speed/readable distances for each The human factors involved in sighting signals e.g. Vigilance, Detection, recognition, interpreting and action. Risks and mitigations (adding Supplementary Reading Time) Miles then undertook assessment & following this he now holds his competency for five years to act as a signal sighting committee member.

Miles is particularly grateful to Michael Hickey, Russell Simpson, for all their help and support throughout his training journey.
