We’re happy to announce that the IRSE featured us in their December news where our Director Russell Simpson talks about the difficulties he’s faced as a business in recruiting skilled engineers within the rail industry.
A report on rail skills by the City & Guilds & National Skills Academy for Rail (NSAR) shows a clear picture for the UK’s rail workforce and points to a number of factors. These challenges highlight the importance of investing in people and skills. If the industry does not find the skills it needs, it will put at risk the timelines for delivering to the Government’s planned infrastructure projects.
The top ten skills gaps require recruiting 153,000 additional people between 2023 and 2030 and NSAR analysis shows the bulk of these will need to be at levels 2, 3 and 4 – often best served by apprenticeships. Only 26 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds say they would consider a career in rail (compared to 39 per cent of 35 to 44-year-olds.)
What’s your thoughts on the industry skills shortages? 🤔
